I continue to adore these novellas. I wish there were more, and I'm eternally glad Nghi Vo is continuing to publish them. The prose is beautiful and I am a sucker for a continually evolving/changing story that doesn't necessarily need to be told linearly.
Spoiler from poly elders who have adored each other long enough for their love to become that of legend, to non-romantic sworn bonds, to fast friendships, this novella shows the enormous breath of what is possible in relationships and love, beyond the narrow definitions often ascribed to marriage and friendship. Nghi Vo writes the most gorgeous fully realized characters.

This story was so fun - the stories were interesting and the theme of never being able to fully know another person and these little gifts of learning special things about them was really well executed. This one took a while to get going for me but the way it wrapped up was perfect.

In the third novella in The Singing Hills cycle, Nghi Vo continues her excellent storytelling through the eyes of Cleric Chih. They meet several very intriguing characters along the way and, as with the first two books, gather stories from each. I enjoy how the near-mythological tales told by the storytellers are interwoven with the present-day story of Cleric Chih's experience. Vo's description of the little details that Chih notices in intense moments particularly stood out to me as insightful and poignant. I'm also glad to see the return of Almost Brilliant and her snarky commentary!
