This book is a short letter written as a poem. It pays homage to a young Syrian refugee who lost his life at sea trying to get to Europe. Parts of the writing reminded me of the current situation in Gaza and it is heartbreaking to know people live amidst war on a daily basis.

I gave this 3 stars feeling crappy but to be honest, this is not a book of any sort or kind. This should be a splendid and touching art gallery, where all the paintings are immense, engulfing the audience, personal yet social. When you put those artistic paintings in a small book, with that small bit of text in corners you honestly waste a lot of potential. Not everything needs to be printed, some things have a bigger impact by themselves.

Reviewing this one is a bit difficult, as I know next to nothing about poetry. I admit I did have to read it a couple times to fully understand it, but the book is very short, so doing this was easy. It has quite a powerful message, especially knowing the inspiration behind it. Honestly, my favorite part about this was probably the illustrations. They are simply gorgeous. Two stars for the message and illustrations, but really, Khaled Hosseini's longer works are where he really shines.
