It had a good start, but lost interest around the 120 page mark. Things got kind of confusing and I didn't quite understand what was going on, nor could I keep track of the characters. Might try again at a later time with a physical copy and read at a slower pace.

Slow to get into, and at times, I was not relating to or wnjoying being in our main characters head. But that was at the beginning. Once I pushed through, I found there was a nice story to be had. A cool world that felt pretty unique to other fantasy worlds I’ve read before. And the heist portion was fun, zoomed through that part. And low and behold, I reached the end, and now I want to continue to the next book.

This should have been right up my alley, but I don't know how one could make a story about someone who can Eliza Thornberry with inanimate objects so boring. A clever street thief! A saucy [spoiler-free object] sidekick! Fantasy mafia! A magic system that anthropomorphizes matter itself! How am I not charmed by this??

Unfortunately, I can't put my finger on why. I just, didn't care enough about the characters or the stakes. I've been putting off this review for about 2 weeks, and now I can barely remember what happened in the book: it's that forgettable. I even read in in print and audiobook at the same time and that didn't help. I was also laid up on the couch with a painful injury for a week, so maybe that's the problem but ugh
