I like this author but I'm not sure how much I liked this one compared to some of her others.

“Yeah, it seems rough now, but every storm runs out of rain at some point. Something will come along that's better than what you wanted before.”

One Line Review: a great reminder that even when a literal bus can hit you, life always has a plan for you.

Synopsis: I listened to this as an audiobook while driving on a trip recently, and I loved the rapid-fire start that sucked me in. Milly is on her way to "the big interview" and when certain events occur (enter bus rudely interrupting her distracted walking while texting) she comes to in a hospital.

Tough times seem to be a standard on Milly's horizon, but this sweet, endearing novel allows you to slowly realize that not every bad moment leads to a bad outcome. A possible rekindled romance, and opportunities Milly never knew she needed, this second-chance romance was such a fun read/listen.

My Thoughts: I was happy to receive this recommendation from a friend, which lead me to finding this author. I will absolutely be reading more from Maxine!

Thank you to Rachel at Random Resources Tours for my invitation to the tour and to Boldwood Books for my e copy of the book via Net Galley in return for a fair and honest review.

Milly is going for a job with Vogue that she has wanted forever and nothing is going to stop her except maybe a bus ! She wakes up in hospital surrounded by her family who have been worried sick and it comes to light that her accident happened whilst she looking at her phone is not a surprise to anyone. Milly was a workaholic and was desperate to prove herself and she never gave herself a break. This meant even breaking up with Jed her handsome and successful boyfriend so when he arrives at hospital she finds out some home truths about herself and her life before the accident.

They all tell her she needs to rest after such severe injuries but will she listen ?

I galloped through this book, I really liked the characters. I really felt for Milly who really has tried her hardest to be the successful woman she wants to be and through an accident this all changes. Unfortunately her clients are not as loyal and she faces an uncertain future. Until Jed comes along again will she let him help her or will she carry on as she was ? She is fiercely proud and independent and Jed knows it.

Another great and uplifting read from this author which again made me smile and I loved the trips to Ravi’s bookshop! It’s a great tale about looking at life in a different way and making the most of it’s opportunities.

Things Are Looking Up by Maxine Morrey

Milly has been waiting for this moment forever and finally it’s just an hour away—an interview with Vogue magazine and the opportunity to get her Louboutin-clad foot in the door. There’s just one problem: totally engrossed in her mobile phone, Milly doesn’t see the bus that is fast approaching—until it’s too late…

When Milly next opens her eyes, the consequences of her accident become clear. Everything she has worked for and dreamed of suddenly feels out of reach. But there is one bright spot on her horizon: the reappearance of her ex Jed, in all of his six-foot-four, broad-shouldered glory, with the most piercing ice blue eyes Milly ever saw.

Being hit by a bus makes Milly stop and think about her life choices. As the book progresses it is nice to see the way that Milly develops as a character - now that she can see the world around her instead of being glued to her phone. A heart-warming story with some great characters.

After getting hit by a bus, literally, Milly spends a week in a coma and then a few weeks in the hospital recovering. She is forced to make some life changes, partly because her old life moved on without her.

This is one a best chick lit books I have read in awhile. I loved Milly’s humor. The scene early in book where she is looking at apartments is so funny as she tries to convince herself and her friend that the bullet casing outside, mice running in the walls, creepy neighbor, and a front door that won’t shut are fine, just fine.

Milly’s former life required her to be online all the time, up and in season on fashion (expensive!) once she looked up from the phone and looked around her, she realized there is so much more to the world. I think this is a great message not to get too involved in work and enjoy life!

This was a perfect lighthearted cheesy book. Unfortunately these kind of books never get higher than 4 stars because they’re nothing amazing but nonetheless I still love them and find them easy to read and they put a smile on my face and this did exactly that!
