I may be overwhelmed with emotion right now but I have to say that this is the best book I've ever read. It had all the pieces I require in a good novel: adventure, love, war, dialogue, friendship, death. The ending was extremely painful to read - I actually had to skim through paragraphs nervously (though I did go back to them later on) just to impatiently confirm the miserable happenings.

I honestly didn't feel the loving relationship between Frederick and Catherine that Hemingway (blandly) described throughout the novel. But, I didn't really feel any of it. This was probably partially me, and partially Hemingway's style. I wanted to love this book... but between reading it for school and having to look out for symbols, metaphors, or themes, I quickly became disinterested. I've never really liked historical fiction anyway. Hopefully, my next Hemingway experience will be better than this one.
