This is my favorite book so far by Sarah J Maas and I’ve read her 3 most famous series. It is difficult and brutal and honest and surprising. She makes you feel scornful of the main characters but then deeply redeems them as complicated people. I don’t think the second book lives up to this one, which is a shock to the system having just finished Throne of Glass.

I absolutely loved Crescent City book 1.  I've previously read the entire throne of Glass series and four of the five books in ACOTAR and I have to say, this might be my favorite book this far.

Sarah J. Maas did a wonderful job with the world building in this book and I adore the personalities that she gave these characters. I was laughing out loud at several different points throughout the book. Her typical Maas style, her book takes all over the place as far as emotions go but the adventure is definitely worth it. I can't wait to start the next book.

Damn, this book had me sobbing so hard. I had to rehydrate after chapter 97.

In the beginning of the book I was so confused what was going on. The cursing was not my favorite, the dystopian setting I had trouble adjusting too and the constant sexualising of each other was bothersome.

But after some chapters I got into it, the setting, the story, the characters. This book was a chaotic rollercoaster. And I was here for the ride.

Of all the Sarah J Maas books this one had the most fast pace (I think) so far. Not as much spice. Which was fine of course. I don't think I will ever re-read this one but boy, it earned a place on my favorites shelve.

Through love, all is possible.
Light it up <3

I had a hard time getting into this one, it took two attempts to read it but I am so glad I stuck with it. I throughly enjoyed this book. this world, and these characters. The modern fantasy was definitely weird at first but I came to really like it. I’m not usually into mystery type books but I really liked that aspect of this book. The twists, turns, and surprises made it a page turner. I am excited to read the next book in the series and to get to know these characters even more.
Bryce was not my favorite for a lot of the book but she grew on me so much that I really like her now. Her grief was very well written. Her growth and enduring love for her friends was beautiful to read.
There were some things I was iffy on plot wise but they all got resolved pretty well by the end. The back and forth of thinking Danika was bad and good, not knowing who to trust, made it more suspenseful.

the writing style is super wordy. sometimes entire paragraphs are just one big run on sentence which was messing with me. and the constant male-female dichotomy language is annoying to me.
the first 10-20 pages is so packed with character intros and world building that it was very overwhelming but once i got through that it did get interesting. i like the overall story. i like the main characters sometimes but i have my issues with them too.
a couple of the big twists were predictable to me, predicted about 100 pages prior to but they were still good.
i’m not personally into the “love conquers all” and “everything happens for a reason” mentalities that come up quite a few times either.  Regardless of my personal issues with it though, it was still a pretty entertaining book.
