All that I am was written about actual events and people which made this story all the more likeable. The people within this historical account served for a very reverting story and their political events were remarkable to read about. Writing this recount in a story style was a smart idea and way to tell a dedicated part of history with sounding like a text book.

Always a skeptic when it comes to Nazi books, it wasn't until the second half of the book that my reservations dissipated and I got to live the book as it breathed, with none of my "Oh-another-Nazi-book" preconceptions.
It was the tragedy of "All That I Am" that turned it into a great read for me. It wasn't grim enjoyment, it was the raw emotions that emanated with everything that wasn't said.
In the end, I saw Funder's novel as a social commentary relevant to all refugees worldwide. This is why I think the book is great. This is why it won the Pulitzer. Congratulations Anna!
