I have quite liked the author’s Jane Yellowrock series. However, I wasn’t really convinced after the first installment of this series and, unfortunately, I think this is the last one in the series that I will bother to read.
At around 40% read I was quite frankly bored. Nothing worthwhile really happened apart from the main protagonist floating around and whining about this and that. For instance, how many times do we have to read about the bloody “vampire tree” that her blood had “mutated”. Vampire tree? Seriously?
And then we have that horribly stupid “church talk”. Come one! Church talk. More like retard talk.
Towards the end of the book it just gets weird with with Nell getting into some plant world/dimension/whatever. This was simply too boring and too weird for me. The book is not poorly written which is why it gets two stars and not one but it is not really a series for me.

With so much going on FLAME IN THE DARK takes us even deeper into the world of Soulwood.
FLAME IN THE DARK was not an easy installment for Nell. She has to overcome quite a bit, but evolves with every experience. I always love that Faith Hunter lets us learn about Nell and what she can do right along with her instead of having us play catch up.
Not only is a lot revealed about Nell and what she can do, but the rest of the PsyLED team continues to develop and grow too. I truly enjoy each and every one of them and love learning new things about them. We even get a little bit of progress on a brewing romance in FLAME IN THE DARK.
The storyline is a full one. There are a lot of things happening in FLAME IN THE DARK and although there isn't much downtime, I still found some parts of the book to be a little on the slow side. But even with the slow parts, I still had no problem keeping interested in what was happening. In the future, I would love to see Nell and Jane interacting some more. For now, I will keep my eyes open for book four.

Another great addition to this series. Nell's power and understanding continue to grow. The mystery was great in this one. The relationships are realistic too. Loved it.

This was a good book. I love how Nell has Grown over the series and how hard she works at her new job. while we are able to find out more about what Nell is. We also get to see more of her relationship with Occam. Overall this was a good book up until about the last chapter which felt like a cop-out to me. But overall was a nice read.

This is good, really good. Good plot, and as always great characters. I'm so glad there will be two more. Hate to think this would be the last one.
I was as worried about Mud as anyone. Nell's family freaks me out worse than the monsters.
