I have a deep love for Paige & most of the Seven Seals. I wanted to learn the world of the Syndicate in the first book so badly. I was incredibly excited for this book to understand who Paige was before & after Oxford.
I always knew Jaxon was a mf rat. When he said (I’m paraphrasing) that he knew more of Paige’s outings than she realized, I knew he was a rat. And I’m so so so sure that he was dying for money because he couldn’t sell Voyants since Paige was “home”
I loved her growth as a person, humanitarian, vigilante, savior, & dreamwalker. This book was nothing short of action packed, intriguing and difficult to put down. This is growing to be one of my favorite series, and I hope it only gets better from here.

Corruption upon corruption upon corruption.

I went into this book understanding Shannon’s writing style, so it didn’t bother me as much as it did in the first book.

Let me tell you - yall want SLOW burn? A romance than burns so slowly you want to spoon our own eyes out??? This is the series for you. It’s frustrating as hell but so satisfying.

I wasn’t sure I’d continue with the series after book one, but the politics entranced me in book two. And of course, soft-spoken Warden <3 the banter between these two is so hilarious to me. And I absolutely love his little sayings to her. Yall want yearning?? Yall want slow burn???? Shannon gives you both in this story.

‘Hope is the lifeblood of revolution. Without it, we are nothing but ash, waiting for the wind to take us.’

even tho this was equally chonky as book 1, i found this to be a much faster read bc of the setting change and getting quite acquainted with the world in the previous book.

there was a faster pace to the actions as well, and i found myself very drawn in and intrigued by the mime crime rings and the underground world of the voyants in london.

‘Every revolution begins with breakfast, darling.’

i felt like this had very real challenges and downfalls this part of the story would lead to. there were some small twists and turns that i found surprising and interesting. in general, i think the worldbuilding of voyants and mimes is really what makes this series for me. it would be so cool to see how voyants are in "free worlds".

‘If I could choose anyone on Earth, it would still be you, Paige Mahoney.’

ARCTURUS MESARTHIM. YOU ARE EVERYTHING.

anyone who loves a good slowburn is going to die and wither away from the slow boil tension between him and paige. i love a mmc who recognizes a queen when he gets one

‘If I fear anything, it is not that I want you,’ he said quietly. ‘Only that I might want you too much. And for too long.’
‘You can never want too much. That’s how they silence us,’

i wasn't really as devastated by the end as i expected to be, but i'm not gonna lie i am scared for what might be coming in the next two books 😅

‘And words, my walker – well, words are everything. Words give wings even to those who have been stamped upon, broken beyond all hope of repair.’

Somehow even better than the first! This sequel takes the beautiful world Shannon crafted in the first installment and builds on it. Certainly more of an atmospheric, heady read than The Bone Season. I loved learned more about the Seven Seals and the London they occupy, including complex syndicate politics and power dynamics.

I didn't really like this one as much as the other entries in the series when I first read the original text, but she really elevated her writing and pulled everything together in a much more cohesive way in this new edited version.

Really I just love this series in general - the worldbuilding is wonderful, the characters are fantastic, and this book in particular has a really twisty murder mystery that is a ton of fun to read.

My only main complaint about this book is that Paige and Arcturus are separated for a great chunk of it (my shipper heart just wants them to be together 24/7).

A brutal, fast paced follow up to The Bone Season. Samantha Shannon expands the world of Scion, taking readers deeper into the dark underbelly of the London Citadel and its clairvoyant population.

Now that Paige Mahoney is back in London, she must decide whether to return to her old life as mollisher for the charismatic Jaxon Hall. But how can she when she knows the truth about Scion?

But the influent of the Rephiam goes deeper than anyone could have imagined, and Paige begins to wonder if she didn’t escape one form of slavery only to find herself in another.

The story has still some very interesting elements that make me want to continue the series. Especially I am interested in the worldbuilding and finding out more about Paige's powers and the truth about the origins of these hellish characters (i dont know how to write their name in english but yeah you get it). The book is a bit slow at the beginning but the 3rd part makes it worth it. Really loved the fight
between Jax and Paige and his character
also holds so much potential for future instalments.
