Let me be clear, I don't have a crush on him. I just enjoy looking at his dorky face.

Well, I have one question after reading this comic, and it's aimed at myself: why the hell did I keep delaying reading it? Seriously, I should have believed the hype. It's so good.

The art style completely hooked me from the first few pages. I loved the dark neon colors and the overall noir-ish style. But it's the characterization that made me fall in love with the story. Hades and Persephone in particular are absolutely adorable, and the overall portrayal of all the Greek gods is great. The author does an awesome job of putting her own spin on these mythological personalities while retaining a distinct Olympian vibe.

There was a certain plot point closer to the end, the one with Apollo, that did make me wish I took better care to check the trigger warning. It didn't exactly come out of the left field, far from it; there was sufficient build-up that allowed me to mentally prepare, but I just kept wishing that wouldn't happen. The way it was handled made sense in fiction, for the setting and the character arc alike, it's just... well. On me for not checking the warnings. I don't want to share explicit spoilers, but if you're sensitive to sexual assault and coercion stuff, don't repeat my mistakes.

Anyway, back to the positive stuff: I absolutely loved the portrayal of Hera here. In the last few Greek mythology retelling I remember reading, she kept ending up as the shrieking scorned woman who seems to hate her entire gender. While it is easy to see how it's rooted in the mythological canon, this interpretation is getting tired and ignores plenty of other aspects of her divine identity which were fully utilized here.

Three other random thing I loved:

- The relationship between Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades

- Hades's dogs! All of them, but especially that little floofy ball of rage!

- The portrayal of the Underworld. The art throughout the comic is awesome, but in those parts it just reached new heights.

Can't wait to get to the rest of the story!

Always obsessed with a Hades & Persephone retelling and this one has such beautiful art to go along with the story. I thought the pictures were breath-taking and the story was interesting so far.

Can I give this book 10/5 for being so stunningly beautiful and so sad at the same time!?

Dust off your Greek mythology text book because you’re going to need to brush up on everything you’ve forgotten from school. (Okay. Maybe a quick google search will do just fine.) But it will be 100% worth it to refresh your memory for this gorgeous and heartbreaking story.

These are not intended for children, or even young teens. The content is mature and upsetting (please see content warnings), but because the illustrations are so stunningly beautiful I can see why kids who love graphic novels and comics would want to read these.

I cannot wait to read volume two.

Wow. This was just AMAZING.
I discovered WEBTOON a couple of days ago and decided to read this beautiful graphic novel when I downloaded the app and I’m so grateful I did!!!
So Hades has always been one of my favorite Gods from the greek mythology and I loved the way the author changed his and Persephone’s myth in this cute and beautiful retelling! The real myth per se involves kidnapping and I have always thought mythology as something so unfair to women… I loved how it was changed and it was so cute and also super funny!! I find this story so original because the author sticks with mythology but at the same time mixes it all up with real-life problems like Persephone’s insecurities. I’m not really into romance that much but this one… I’m already addicted.

The characters:
Persephone is so cute, I feel like I want to protect her at all costs and I can’t wait for her to develop as a stronger woman; Hades has all this “bad boy” vibes that we all love but he seems like an amazing person, and the dogs??? I just want to marry him😂; his brothers Zeus & Poseidon are so freaking funny; Arthemis & Hera are THE women, they barely appear but omfg I love them so much; Eros seems like such a good friend but he’s a mama’s boy, I hope he changes😂; and Apollo you can go FUCK YOURSELF thank you.

The drawings are so freaking beautiful, like wtf I want to have that much talent😂 I can’t even draw a straight line🫠. I don’t give this first volume 5 stars because this was more like an introduction to the story and its characters and I know I’m going to love the next volumes and I can’t wait to keep on reading.
Can I read this on webtoon? Yes. Am I going to buy the physical copies of this? Also yes.

Before reading this though, I advise you to check the trigger warnings as it contains some topics that might be disturbing (such as SA).

A modernization of Greek Mythology, this volume creates an accessible, emotionally raw story that focuses on criticizing the amoral natures of the gods, and how close we can be in emulating them.
