This book seemed promising at first but I quickly grew tired of it. Marley seems insistent on throwing herself the biggest pity party ever, and I admit, she was convincing. There was a good length of time where I didn't want her to get a happy ending.
The summary says Jake was a bad boy in high school, but all we really know is he wore a leather jacket, and "convinced" a substitute teacher to make out with him. Because that's not sexual assault at all on the teacher's part!
There is a characteristic mean girl on the soccer team that Marley deals with rather poorly but is regarded as a fantastic decision. Yes! Let's yell at her and tell her she's going to be miserable all her life and then kick her off the soccer team, with no chance of her figuring out what she's done wrong because the author completely forgot about her!
There's a line Jake says to Marley near the end of the book. "I wanna know when you're going to stop acting like high school ruined your entire life."
Yes, I'd quite like to know too! The answer seems to be about forty pages before the end. Yippee. I could keep ranting (about Jake, actually), but I'm going to quit here.
+ 1 star for being well written.
