This book is slow and honestly, for most of it nothing is happening. The main character doesn't really seem to have any distinctive personality traits and the best character is definitely the dog, Spider. HOWEVER, the last two pages make everything else worth it. Truly. I wouldn't say this is a great book and it wouldn't be my first recommendation. But, it's worth reading!

This book was just what it’s marketed as - a traditional ghost story and it did not disappoint! Susan Hill’s writing is absolutely incredible, especially the way the author uses all the senses to create such an immersive experience.

Rant incoming; very predictable and slightly overhyped in my opinion (that does not take away my enjoyment from it!!) I do feel like something was low-key missing from the plot whether it was more terror and suffering or just a bit more explanation (e.g. going into the history of the woman in black a bit more, myths etc.) but who am I to judge such a highly rated classic ✋

Overall I did enjoy my experience and if this book was a restaurant I would probably give a 10% tip and a positive google review
