It’s an interesting take on the story of King Midas. It just took so damn long to pick up. I kept reading strictly because I’ve seen so much hype about this series but I just didn’t get hooked on the story until about 75% of the way through. This is certainly a slow burn with a some world-building sprinkled in. I feel like this book was definitely written with the intention of being a series and does nothing for me other than to set the stage for the heart of the story… which I’m hoping is in book two.

DNF for me. This is *not* comparable to ACOTAR, TOG or FBAA. I stopped reading because I felt the writing was juvenile and more suitable for a YA audience (if you take out the s*x slave portion). Yes there is some 🌶 but it’s graphic and unrealistic. Be warned this is written from the perspective of a girl who very clearly has Stockholm syndrome. There was also an extreme lack of creativity and world building.

King Midas retelling— he’s a very bad man. There are content warnings in this book but just as a reminder it’s a dark,
Adult book. Not dissimilar from game of thrones. It ends in such a way that I compulsively bought the second book, I have to know what happens next!

Exactly what I needed to read right now. Definitely check the trigger warnings.

I loved that I questioned things and disliked things about the MC but also liked that tiny little layers were peeled off throughout the book to give you glimpses of the true story.

This is dark and  I know right now who I want the love interest to be, but who knows!

I really enjoyed this! I had no idea what this was about when I picked it up I just heard a lot the people talking about it and I’m so glad I picked it up. I am mad that the rest of the series isn’t on kindle unlimited so now I have to buy them. I just really enjoying our main character and just like the lore and the retelling. This book actually did make me cry which I wasn’t expecting. I’m excited to see where this goes.
