There were things that were stated that I definitely want to find out about in the next books. But this book moved incredibly slow for my taste. I know that’s just the case with the first book in any series, but it felt especially true in this one.

So I went into this book with no knowledge of what it was about or what would happen. I have been hearing great things about this book for a while now but nothing could have prepared me for how amazing this was. Personally, it's not like anything I've ever read before. And as soon as this review is posted I'm going to start Glint. I 100,000% recommend this book. I can't wait to see where this goes. I'm honestly so shocked and I have so many questions. This book evoked so many emotions. I was and still very angry at a lot of the characters for the cruel ways they treated Auren and other saddles. I cried and laughed. (Also I want to say that I don't think that this book is a sure way to make you cry or anything. I tend to be an emotional reader. However, I do think that even if you aren't as much of an emotional  reader as me this book will still bring forth the strong emotions.) So stop reading reviews and READ THIS!

This was very slow pace - and I see why people have said to read this like it’s a prequel setting up book 2.

The only reason I gave it two stars is because the writing itself was actually really good. The overall idea was intriguing. But the flow of the plot was difficult to get behind and the characters themselves were unlikeable

The protagonist was very disappointing. Her naivety was so bad it felt selfish. As a character she was very unlikeable.
SpoilerYou waited for her to do something, anything, when he only friend gets murdered and another person gets raped in front of her. But no, even though she holds power she won’t use it. And the book doesn’t delve into why. I hate how some fantasy books feel the need to include graphic rape scenes.

I love SJM but this is more for fans of Game of Thrones. I wouldn’t say it has a lot of smut either. I only finished it and plan on continuing it based off of the reviews from TikTok.
