SpoilerBetty Rhyzyk is Brooklyn Polish cop from a cop family. She is tough and has to be. She is also lesbian and lives with Jaquie (a Dr. with family in Dallas). She is in narcotics and taking on Mexican cartel dealers but then it gets weirder when "The Family" turns out to be East Texas christian cult that even takes out Mexican cartel boss.  Then weirder still the family boss wants to breed her oldest son with Rhyzyk and she is saved just in time.  I like her Uncle Benny who guides her even after he dies.</spoiler

This looks like the beginning of another decent murder mystery/police procedural series! Female protagonist who is also a lesbian. 5 foot 11, strong, red-haired, and smart. Although she's from Brooklyn, which the author uses as a bit of the setting in reminisces, her new home in Dallas is a large part of the story. Killing off the good guys doesn't phase this author, and much of the action is pretty violent. That said, I still look forward to a second installment!

This one was fine, but didn't really stand out to me as part of the mystery genre. The end part could have made more of a good thriller if it were extended. But otherwise, nothing really to complain about or crow about here.
