I honestly forgot this book was on my want to read list. Fantasy and magic aren't really my thing, so I don't know why I attempted to read it. I guess I was trying to branch out from my typical genres. I marked the book did not finish at 38%. The book started out strong and then kind of fizzled out for me.

Why oh why couldn't have smog me read this? I totally reverted back to an eleven year old and loved this way more than I should have as an adult. Even still, it put so much into words that even now I haven't been able to. This book will stick with me for a long, long time.

This book has to be one of the best written stories I have ever read. The fluidity in which the author goes from thinking to speaking to narrating is seamless. I would give this book a 4.5/5; the only drawback I found was the length of the story, I found it to be a tad too long. That aside, I found myself not only relating to the main character, but also understanding of where the family was coming from with all of their faults and quirks. As hard of a time as I had putting this book down I had an even harder time not telling everyone I knew about Some Kind of Happiness.

Before I start and tell what I think about this book, I want to have an intermission to vehemently urge everyone to GO AND READ THIS 🗣️🗣️🗣️

I am utterly speechless about the way this book surprised me in so many ways. Exploring the realm of mental health through the lens of a middle-grade novel is, above all, mind-changing, especially when executed with the same level of excellence as Legrand has. The author's prose was crafted in such a sensible yet sincere way, brimming with child wonder while maintaining a profound sense of mental health, family dynamics, and so on.  I can only hope that this is translated into my mother tongue so that I may recommend it to all the young readers I encounter. In fact, if given the authority, I would make this mandatory reading 😤

This book tackled a multitude of subjects, yet none of them felt forced. They were authentic and they could resonate with a wide range of individuals. They were all seamlessly interwoven together, which made the plot incredibly captivating, compelling me to devour this book in just two sittings. I adored the manner in which the narrative unfolded and got transformed in Everwood, alongside Finley's lists. Her narration was like no other, and I found it quite unique and genuine to what she was feeling and describing.

This book is absolutely stunning. I adored Finley and her family from the beginning, the mystery pulling me through, and Finley's "darkness" is something that so many kids need to see on the page. This is one of the most beautiful, important, and needful depictions of depression and anxiety in young kids I've ever seen. Brava!

Misread the synopsis, thought this was a book about magic and supernatural stuff, not a young girl with a rich imagination. This would probably be a great book for young kids struggling with anxiety and depression.
