Eddie Jaku touchingly recounts his tale of surviving the Holocaust. He manages to give a positive spin to the story through his focus on the help he received from others and the relationships that carried him through. Still, the story is filled with brutality and inhumane treatment. It’s a book we can all learn from.

Kirja kuvaa Jakun sanojen mukaisesti Natsi-Saksan "maan päällisen helvetin" oloja erittäin elävästi ja siksi myös karmivasti. Kyseessä ei olekaan mikään kertomus, tarina tai satu menneistä ajoista, vaan historiallinen kuvaus monista niistä kauheuksista, joihin aivan tavalliset ihmiset pystyvät itsekkyydessään ja vihassaan. Valitettavasti samat kauheudet toistuvat edelleen tänäkin päivänä, jopa Euroopan itäosissa ja Välimeren rannikoilla. Olemme aivan liian helposti unohtamassa Natsi-Saksan hirveydet ja antamassa tilaa ja hyväksyntää samanlaiselle ajattelulle nyky-yhteiskunnassa.

Vaikka Jaku itse onkin jo poissa, ovat hänen sanansa edelleen erittäin tärkeä opetus ja muistutus kaikille nykypäivän kansalaisille. Niiden avulla voisimme yrittää vihdoin oppia, että emme saa antaa vihalle tilaa tai voimaa. Tämä kirja on ehdoton suositus luettavaksi jokaiselle aikuiselle - jotta emme ikinä unohtaisi.

Another five book this year. I couldn't stop listening to this book. I listened to it in one day. This is a quick read.

He was captured and held at Auschwitz, one of the worst concentration camps, for two years. He witness so many deaths, escaped death, and escaped Auschwitz and then returned. I highly recommend reading this book.
