I'm finally done.
This is the first time in so long it takes me more than a week to finish such a short book. I mean, I liked it but it falls flat next to the first one. The mystery was okey but I had forgotten most of the stuff that happened in Cloaked in Shadow that a small reminder would have been nice. I wasn't expecting the turns but neither was I excited to keep reading. And the typos... gosh no, there were so many

The new characters in this book are really well written and I loved most all of them.

5/5 stars!

Another solid book from Ben! This series is definitely gearing up to be one of my favorites of all time. The pacing was well done and I never felt that it was rushed, and it built up to this shocker of a twist. Though, I shouldn't be surprised since the first book had a shocking twist as well.

I loved seeing Zacriah start to grow as a character and see him fight for Hadrian. I loved seeing their love story progress and see it come under strain. I loved meeting more characters and developing old ones.

While I did love the pace, I did feel like there were instances where we could have not had certain scenes where they were just camping and included the knowledge elsewhere. But, it is the second book to a trilogy and setting up for the final book in the trilogy is a difficult task and I can see where things will lead from the bread crumbs Ben has left for the reader.

It was fine. I liked it less that the first one, mainly because don't things/ choices made by people who should have known better were made obviously for plot.
Still good and magical, even more obvious magic.
It was missing some of the aspects I found fun in the first, but still enjoyable. Mainly, I was annoyed with the political choices that didn't make sense.
