Fred Vargas' mysteries are always fascinating and well written, this one was no exception.
The character and plot development are fascinating and entertaining as usual.
A very good mystery, full of twists and turns, that kept me hooked.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I’m a huge fan of crime thrillers that contain plenty of twists and turns. This one checked all of those boxes and more. This is the first of this “series” that I’ve read, even though it is technically the eleventh book. I would definitely say these can be read out of order, since I didn’t feel like I missed anything. Maybe I missed some of the character’s backstories, but it was nothing that I couldn’t pick up throughout the book.

Adamsberg is one of my favorite investigative characters I’ve read about. He’s humorous, hard working, and has one of the most imaginative minds I’ve come across in a crime thriller. I really enjoyed reading the parts where all of the team were interacting, they have this amazing bond and just seem to understand one another in an interesting way.

Overall, I was a huge fan of how in depth, interesting, and unique this whole plot line was. The investigation was just so out of the norm from what I’m used to reading. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. The whole premise just made me think, and gave me the chills at points. It was so realistic, but on the line of not being. I have to sum this book up as creative, original, and thought provoking. I will 100% be reading many other books by this author.

That was strange. And it took forever. I figured out the murderer in the first 100 pages, and I had a clue as to the “how,” but I did not know the “why” because, really, WHO COULD figure it out when the plot is this convoluted and ridiculous?
