I for sure wish I would have read this in the context of a classroom discussion. I wasn't crazy about the writing style (at certain points it felt more like theory than art or fiction) but it was thought-provoking to say the least.

I won't say that it was an "enjoyable" read, but most certainly a literary masterpiece.

An absolutely beautiful depiction of mid-century Afro-Americana. Ellison's connections between lack of identity and the black narrator's "invisibility" pull the reader into the snare of America's corrupt social system, both racially and socially (and, cross-referencing the two systems, Ellison brings up valid arguments against black scholars' ignorance and obstinacy towards back-country Blacks). I highly recommend the work to all who wish to be well-acquainted with the American literary canon.
