Heartbreak Boys is a YA contemporary from Simon James Green which follows Jack and Nate's quest for revenge after finding out their boyfriends have been cheating... with each other.

I say "revenge" but really their massive take-down scheme is to set up a "highlights reel" social media account to present to the world that our two protagnoists are very much loved up.

I really liked the clash in personalities: Nate is out by very reserved and private, while Jack is very very out and very very proud. It was interesting seeing how their differences informed plot points given one of them is more into the scheme than the other.

I enjoyed the focus on social media being about trying to present your best self on public forums but with the hopes that very specific people see it, rather than just trying to get what little closure you can face-to-face.

Sadly road trip stories are really not for me and there's very few books on this kind of theme that I've really enjoyed so that got in the way moreso than anything to do with what was written. It still managed to make me laugh out loud in places.
