I loved book 7 in the Outlander series. The characters feel like old friends and the story is somehow still extremely cohesive, conflict doesn't feel forced and stories continue from even the first one without feeling tacked-on. My only complaint is the number of cliffhangers toward the end of the book, but even those kept me excited for the next one. Onward!

I'd only ever read this one once - right after it was released - so in some ways, this was like reading a brand new book! This book makes so much more sense to me now that I've read the first two in the Lord John series. In my first read, I had no idea who Percy was and figured I'd forgotten him from somewhere in the series - I do find it a little odd that Gabaldon would incorporate him into the Outlander series without any real introduction/explanation for those that haven't read Lord John!

My first time through I remember being really bored by William's sections. This time I still found them to be the least interesting (I think it's all the battle explanations) but I did find myself liking William much more. I really liked Rachel and Denzell, although it was a little convenient that the girl Denny was in love with was Dottie. I look forward to seeing what happens with Young Ian, Rachel and William, as it wasn't overly resolved at the end.

I really enjoyed the Brianna and Roger sections! The addition of Buck and his time travelling made for an interesting twist, and I still found myself shocked at Roger travelling back to find Jem, only for it to be revealed that Jem HADN'T time travelled!! I can't wait to pick up the new one (FINALLY!) and see what happens with everyone - how will Jamie react to Claire's marriage to John?! Will Young Ian finally find happiness?! And WHAT is going to happen to Roger/will he ever reunite with his family?!

I've been a big fan of the books for years but had delayed reading this one for a while, hoping to read thefinal books together but I couldn't wait anymore. An Echo in the Bone was very strange. The first half of the book felt extremely long and tedious and kinda boring. We are introduced to two new perspectives through the book, Williams and John Greys. At first that seemed great to get to know them better, except that for the first half of the book you didn't really get to know William. All of his chapters for that half were BORING. And most of them leant anything to the story. John Greys for this half varied between boring and moderately interesting, though I might have liked them more if I read the Lord John Grey novels.

The second half was fanatstic, it was interesting, funny, exciting, the whole package. Except for the final 15 chapterswhich frankly felt phoned in.
Spoiler I was actually okay with the plot of thinking Jamie was dead, but I'm surprised they didn't stretch the reveal more. But wow was there no emotion during that! There was more description and emotion when William was robbed than there was when Claire thought she lost her one true love! And even if it was to show she was numb, the author is far capable of instilling emotion and pain! Hell I cried from the three sentence prologue because I could feel Jaime's love and sadness for his daughter! But one moment clair was grieving, then sleeping with John Grey, then the next morning and moderately hungover she seemed almost too happy. It was so bizarre. And very disappointing.

I will say that one u expected bonus was there were a lot of small characters from long ago books that made a return. I won't spoiler who they were but I loved Jamie's cousins emergence.

These books are like an old friend that I visit with now and again. The combination of the amazing narration by Davina Porter and my constant need to know what’s happening with Claire and Jamie, is a match made for my listening pleasure.

I am finally past everything that has been shown in the television series. I am all caught up for the next season. That is such a great feeling. I loved all of the different perspectives of characters we got to see in this book. There are some plot lines that dragged on too long, like the boat scenes, and there are others that I just wanted more of, such as the scenes between Claire and John. I did love this book, though, and it opened so many new doors for the rest of the series.
