Tim Walker is a revolutionary photographer who can wield a camera with creative intensity, and yet his images evoke a soft, visceral quality. Each image tells a story. Fashion photography may be a subbranch of consumerism, but Walker separates himself, his oeuvre indelible and fictive in its own right. His portraits of Tilda Swinton are phenomenal, as her nearly albino-white hair is stripped back and emphasizes the loud prints of her clothing. The "Minehead Hobby Horse" captures a culture lost, with the motion and exposure, juxtaposed by the vivacity of the costume highlighted. Another portrait of Chinese model Xiao Wen Ju is simply stunning, with an aluminum foil-like substance wrapped around her head and lightly covering her forearms and fingers, while the prismatic jewels emphasize the opulence. By no means is Walker's portfolio prosaic.
