I picked this up solely because of the author. Since I loved Fullmetal Alchemist, I figured another Arakawa manga would be as good. And I wasn’t wrong ☺️

This is absolutely hilarious. You can see the resemblances with FMA in some characters (the Phys Ed teacher is definitely a distant cousin of the Armstrongs 😂), and the humour is on point. Aside from some sexism and fatphobia, the rest is pretty good.

My only problem with it comes from me being a vegetarian. Some scenes left me uncomfortable, but it’s life on a farm, so nothing unexpected.

Looking forward to the next volume!

My husband had us watch Silver Spoon because it's by the same person as Full Metal Alchemist and because he loves slice of life. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I absolutely loved it. So far, the manga is just as wonderful. It's really rewarding watching Hachiken adjust to the agricultural high school and embark on a journey to find his future dreams. I also love the depictions of food throughout this series!

📚 The gist 📚: A slice of life following a high school boy who goes to an agricultural high school to get far away from his parents. The work is tough, especially because he might be the only one there without big dreams.

📒Representation📒: industrial agricultural life, low income, Japanese culture

💕 For readers looking for 💕: slice of life, life goals theme, adjusting to major life changes, fun characters, agricultural life, high school, and amazing food
