Amari and the Night Brothers is just as magical as Amari Peters herself. A supernatural mystery involving a missing brother, an evil magician, and summer camp tryouts. And at the centre of it all, Amari Peters, a young Black girl from a rough neighbourhood that's about to shake the world. A fantastic middle-grade fantasy with explosive action and amazing worldbuilding that leaves me hungry for a sequel.

I thought this was such an AMAZING book. I absolutely adored this book. I loved the characters and plot of the novel. I love how it is like MIB and a middle grade version of Supernatural. Amari is such a great main character. I love how she grows through out the book and seeing her shine and making friends. I do have to say I did not see that twist at the end. I also read this via audiobook and LOVED it!! I can not wait for the next book in the series and see what happens.

Absolutely loved this book! Such a well told story that kept me hooked all the way through. Just one problem with it, and its kind of a deal breaker for me. There's a huge emphasis on specialness/uniquness which is not a terrible thing on its own, but the fact that its SUCH a big theme of the book I just don't think is a great message, especially for kids. Because its one thing to be liked and praised for being special in a way that is sort of normal, but being the only person in a worlds' entire history that is as powerful as that
Spoiler(100% magical)
is just too far.
Spoiler As I read it I hoped that in the end they wouldn't go for the trope of everyone around them getting taken out in some way so they had to save the world all on their own with the power of their specialness, because they had great friends and people who supported them. Even the most talented special person needs help right? But no, in the end it happened exactly as I had hoped against.
I still recommend if you want a fun read, but for as great as the characters and story were, that theme or detail just takes it too far.

a fun time, but not very suspensful ( it was veeeeery easy to guess the 'plot twist')
the writing wasn't very special, and i would've liked more detailed descriptions of the magical world Amari finds herself in
It was very cliché, and the characters didn't really make up for that. they where all so one dimensional and i felt like i didn't get to know them at all througout the course of the book. the only interesting character to me was January and she only had like 4 lines.

HowEVER it was still enjoyable to read and i am curious to see how the author will expand the worldbuilding and magic in the next book :)
