Femi Kayode came up with quite a compelling plot interweaving real-world elements of social unrest through the manipulation of media as the driving force behind the novel. The reason why it fell short of achieving 5 stars is that, for me, the pacing was a bit off. The first half of the novel was strictly a mystery (and a slow-burn one at that). It wasn't until the final 100 pages that things really started heating up and the thriller elements really came into play - hell, the climax didn't happen until 95% of the way through. However, it was still a fantastic read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved this book! It’s perhaps not the most original crime story, but wow, the combination of getting to know Nigerian  society through the eyes of returning Nigerian forensic psychologist Dr Philip Taiwo while figuring out the mystery is great. Learning more about both the criminal and justices systems as well as the academic society in rural Nigeria was fascinating, all the while confirming some and firmly debunking some preconceptions.

I listened to this as audio and the narrations was absolute perfection. Highly recommended
