This book is what I'd classify as an 'important read'. It shines a light on systemic racism and police brutality. The perspective of 16-year-old Starr and the pressure to live across two different worlds, provides some understanding to the issues facing many communities that I will never experience. Well worth a read. Even though this is fiction it is firmly rooted in the realities of gangs, gun violence and drug dealers.enchantingreads's review against another edition

It’s well written, so it’s super easy to read. Reading this story, your heart just breaks for Starr. I loved the characters, and loved to hate some of them. It’s such an important book to read!!
