A coming of age story about coming out at a summer at camp.

This definitely feels like a 2015/16 queer narrative. I think it would have hit me harder if I had read it when I was closer in age to the protagonist.

Delightful, funny, sad. I was a bit weirded out by the age difference between the characters but on the whole I liked it a lot. Is queer-coming-of-age-graphic-novels an actual genre because I want more

I started this book at 11 PM on the 6th and finished it at 11 PM on the 7th. Needless to say, this book (graphic memoir) is amazing and really refreshing

The writing is honest, relatable and expertly structured.
The art is really, really bad.

I thought the story was beautiful, and I actually really love the
Spoileropen-ended and inconclusive
ending. There were moments that felt so real I almost felt like they were my own memories, which is impressive, given that I'd never been to a summer camp or had a crush the way Thrash does in this memoir.

But... I just really couldn't get past the illustrations in this book. They look like they're done by a teenager learning how to draw, instead of a true artist. The cartoonish style made most of the characters look very similar, and it was sometimes difficult for me to distinguish between various characters.
Spoiler I also had trouble with the dream sequences - I didn't realize that the first dream sequence with Maggie and Erin kissing in the lake was just a dream until the second dream sequence came up. That could have been made just a tad clearer, imo.
I wish they'd found a illustrator to work with the author. Seeing this as a film or reading it as a novella might have worked better for me as well. Oh well, it was still a good story, at least.
