This book, the fourth in the series, has restored my faith after my brief disappointment with the last act of the previous book. I love the three main characters: the Librarian Irene, her assistant Kai, and the detective Vale. They're caring and protective of each other, and work well together with only minor squabbling.

This story has Irene and Kai traveling to 1920s New York in search of another Librarian who's disappeared. Mobsters, dragons, and wolves, not to mention an annoyingly insistent police captain, foul up Irene's plans from the very beginning. Luckily, the one thing she's impressed upon Kai is that one should never give up.

These books are fast-paced, fun, inventive, and clever, with entertaining plots and lovable characters. I'm so glad I found them. Now I'm on to the next in the series.
