I’m generally charmed by all KJ’s characters, so of course I like Archie and Daniel too. I would have enjoyed some of Daniel’s perspective, if only because I’m a sucker for mutual yearning. I appreciated that it ended with a chance to see where things would go (and the epilogues answer that pleasantly)

This book was a miss for me. While I find KJ Charles to be a really talented writer, the dynamic between Archie and Daniel was dysfunctional at best and toxic at worst. Even though Archie chooses Daniel at the end, it feels reluctant given his hostility throughout the early book. Even more than hostility, his overt homophobia, racism and anti-Semitism make him pretty irredeemable to me. Learning the errors of his ways does not absolve him of being a straight up jerk to his love interest.

A fun historical mystery/adventure romp with a gay awakening.
