Essays & missed opportunities. Beautiful but too few illustrations; too few & too brief tragicomic reflections on childhood; some cool science facts but not enough of them. I would’ve happily read 400 more pages of this type of content & feel weirdly shortchanged. But also axolotls are my new favorite animals.

I generally enjoy the combo of nature and memoir, but this one didn’t grab me. I think the memoir and nature pieces were too short/not enough info. The artwork is gorgeous though!

An intimate collection of personal stories connected together by the authors passion for nature and the world around her. I was admittedly expecting this to be more factual/nature based, so sadly didn’t love it as much as I’d hoped upon reading the summary but it was a lovely read all the same and one I’d happily recommend.
