This is by far the best book I have ever read.
And even if it wasn't, there was a
black kitten called Ocean
that would still make me love this book.
I have no words to describe how much this resonated with me.

It's always difficult to review horror, as I have to separate my physical feelings of discomfort with what I think objectively about it.
Found myself asking "why?" a lot of the time, without answer from Gaiman. There are parts of this book where it doesn't feel sure of where it is trying to head itself. It makes sense knowing this was supposed to be a short story that was extended into a novel. Not a bad book by all means, just... lacking something for me.

I’m confused but happy about it. The ending of the book felt like waking up from a dream. Well written and classic “monster in the house” horror without being gut wrenchingly scary.
My favorite part was when he had to stay in the fairy ring and fight his demons.
Lovely descriptions and use of POV. Reminded me a bit of A Series of Unfortunate Events. I would also like to sit by the duck pond {ocean} and drink a cup of tea. 🐈‍⬛🌊

Gaiman's typical engaging, quirky/creative storytelling (real world setting with fantasy elements). A very enjoyable shorter novel.
