So many negative reviews, but Cleopatra and Frankenstein is a character-driven gem that fills my sad girl heart with its seamless blend of poignancy, humor, and sadness. With its exploration of character growth, love, and the challenges of things from marriage to mental illness, it easily secured a spot on my top 10 books of the year. Deeply relatable and beautifully complex. I fucking love this one.

Simply fantastic! Fast paced, shocking at times, gritty and dirty. Fabulous story from a first time author!

Stories worth telling, I think

β€œAn Orthodox Jew approaches us. He asks if we're Jewish The wrong half, says Frank, but I tell him I am.

He smiles and wishes me a happy Hanukkah.

The wrong half. I keep repeating the phrase in my mind as we walk I want to tell Frank that there is no wrong half, no halves at all in fact, that it there were, wed be busy halving ourselves again and again until we got to the little square of us that was good and then we would all be free to love and be loved.”

Everyone needs to read this book, i love it with my whole heart. It's seriously amazing how you feel attached to every. single. character. despite how many there all are - and they're not just one-dimensional archetypes or caricatures either. Never have I felt to inclined to move to New York, marry someone i just met and do hard drugs. Also the way Coco Mellors spends at least three pages of the novel talking about Matisse paintings... i <3 this book!
