How can we all just keep swimming along when some of us are drowning?

The main question running through my mind after finishing [b:Find Me|13645069|Find Me|Romily Bernard|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1363918645s/13645069.jpg|19261755] is this: would I have liked it more if I hadn't worked out exactly who the culprit was about 25% into the book? Perhaps I would. Perhaps the exciting tension, some fast-paced action scenes towards the end and the author's sometimes engaging style would have been enough. But, if I'm being honest, I doubt it. I think the book lacks a certain spark to set it apart from the overcrowded mystery/thriller genre - maybe a better protagonist? Maybe an interesting subplot? Maybe less badly-timed romance?

There are individual scenes that standout from the rest of the book, scenes that make me think I might want to check out the author's future work. But such scenes worthy of mention are few and far between, weakened by long spells of dullness and a romance that is thrown in because it's believed to be a necessary component of young adult novels. The entire creation of the love interest character feels like a last minute add-on that doesn't fit neatly with the rest of the plot. Not only is it out of place, but it also offers the same old cliches - he, of course, is your typical male YA love interest characterized by familiar "bad boy" traits. Plus, I found his habit of calling the MC "Wicked" instead of Wicket rather annoying, not cute or sexy which I'm guessing it was supposed to be.

I always like to give credit where it's due and I think Ms Bernard probably writes fantastic short stories. She really knows her way around a tense scene. Spooky noises and shadows creeping along outside your bedroom window... she masters these little details to keep you on the edge of your seat. It was the parts in between these bits that struggled to keep my attention (i.e. at least 80% of the novel). All the main elements of the plot reminded me of other books, most of which I have enjoyed immensely and the author wasn't strong enough to compete with them. The sadistic criminal for a father reminded me of the Jasper Dent books - [b:I Hunt Killers|7766027|I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent, #1)|Barry Lyga|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1333289403s/7766027.jpg|10644152], [b:Game|15791383|Game (Jasper Dent, #2)|Barry Lyga|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1358851581s/15791383.jpg|21502367] - but without Jasper's interesting struggle with his own demons and, though I've expressed my love in the past for stories where older siblings fight to protect younger ones - [b:The Hunger Games|2767052|The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1)|Suzanne Collins|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1358275334s/2767052.jpg|2792775], [b:Angelfall|11500217|Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)|Susan Ee|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1319887835s/11500217.jpg|16435765], [b:The 5th Wave|16101128|The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)|Rick Yancey|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1359853842s/16101128.jpg|19187812] - I think I'm just about getting tired of them.

Also: I still don't understand why adults weren't consulted when Wicket discovers that someone is after Lily. Or, at the very least, Lily herself. I tried to make excuses in my head for why things happened the way they did but I can't make sense of it. I appreciate that Wicket didn't trust the detective, but it's not as if he's the only police officer in the world. Her actions were so reckless that I just didn't believe it. I can assure you I wouldn't launch my own private investigation before getting professionals involved if it was MY little sister or brother that had been threatened by a child molester.

The ending acts as what could be a prologue to a second book called "Remember Me". Well, I think I'll give that a miss unless a LOT of reviews convince me to do otherwise.

Istyria book blog - B's world of enchanted books

*I received a copy of this book for the blog tour by The Fantastic Flying Book Club.*

This was such an awesome book. I loved the hacking, the mystery/thriller part, the romance,… All of that was seriously great, but I didn’t like the fact that I kind of suspected who the bad buy was, and I was right. This would’ve been a 5 star book if I had absolutely no idea until the very end. But it’s still great!

Wicket is an outsider. Someone the rich people like the call ‘Trash’. She has a bad attitude and loves sarcasm. She and her sister live with their foster parents Bren and Todd. Wick earns some money hacking for other women to spy on their boyfriends/husbands. One day, she receives a diary of a girl she used to be friends with, before her deadbeat dad disappeared. In that diary she finds the words ‘Find Me’. Pretty freaky, but that same day, that girl is found dead. She committed suicide. A morbid game of hide & seek follows. She can count on Griff to help her but, when her dad returns, it only makes things more complicated.

The writing was pretty good in this book. Although it was a tiny bit predictable as for who the bad guy was, the author kept me on edge and I was still wondering what was going on. It had me hooked. Plus the hacking is awesome. I don’t know a thing about that stuff, but I love reading about it. And the romance was great too. It wasn’t rushed or anything in my opinion.

I loved Wick. Seriously. I love her sarcasm and her “don’t-care” attitude. And she’s an awesome hacker. That too. I adored Lily. She’s such a bright and adorable girl! It’s hard not to love and adore her. It really is. Griff was cool. He’s funny and cute and he’s pretty sweet for Wick. The romance wasn’t the main focus, which was great, because that would’ve taken away a lot from the suspense if it was.

OH I loved the little fragments from Tessa’s diary at the start of each chapter. A bit creepy, but still cool. And the cover is also cool.

This book kept me on edge and I almost couldn’t put it away just because I had to figure out the truth. Which is a pretty amazing thing to accomplish with me. I recommend this for fans of the genre. Fans of books about hacking will most likely also love this.

I finished Find Me only a few moments ago, and I'm still breathless. I'll be the first to admit that this book didn't hook me at first. It was a slow build up. A deliberate web of mystery and deceit that is created page by page. By the time I was at the mid-point of the book, I was intrigued. By the last third of the book, I was flipping pages like a reader possessed. My point? Give this book some time. It'll hook you. Oh, it'll hook you.

Wicket Tate doesn't only have a very unique name, she has skills. She's a survivor, a computer hacker, and an expert at blending in. So why does she suddenly feel like everything is spiraling out of control? I had a soft spot for Wick and her sister Lily. These two had been through hell and back, yet they were stronger than I could ever be. Wicket has a mouth on her, but her love for her sister is fierce and she'll do whatever it takes to protect them. I couldn't have asked for a better protagonist to follow. Then there was Griff. I wasn't certain about this mysterious guy at first. He felt placed in simply for a possible romance. However soon Griff became as essential to the story as Wick was. Kudos to Romily Bernard! I loved him.

As I mentioned before, the story does take a little time to get into full swing. I found myself placed in the middle of Wick's transition and had to wade through until I got my bearings. Her story is tough because it has so much opportunity to be true. On the flip side, that's also why it's so compulsively readable. The emotion that comes through, the raw pain and strength, are what kept me reading on. Wick is fierce, even in the face of danger, and I adored her for it. Plus you won't see the ending coming. It's slightly like a slap in the face, but one that you'll gladly take.

Is this review all over the place? Probably. Truthfully, my thoughts are still all over the place. The ending of this book was so much more than I was expecting, and I still can't get it out of my mind. What I can say is that I recommend Find Me to you, my dear readers. If you enjoy strong, female protagonists and mystery expertly blended, then this is a book for you.

I actually really really enjoyed this book! It was fast-paced and drew me in very quickly. I will admit I suspected very early on who the culprit was (I guess I watch too much Criminal Minds) I still found the book highly entertaining!

I enjoyed this book more than I could ever imagine. I read it in a day and I loved the twist. The book got me to open up my brain and think in the most hard times when I had nothing to do at home. I love being right, except with movies and books — however, this time it wasn't predictable. The plot twist was carried out amazingly.

I kept this book from my teen years for a reason. The narrative is constantly building and weaves together well. I did figure out who the suspect was fairly early on (earlier than the MC, Wick, began considering them), but that may have been me remembering the story from my earlier reads. Unfortunately, the ending felt rushed - a plot device to get us to the “endgame” didn’t make complete sense to me
(how the hell did Todd get Lily away from Bren? I thought that Lily and Wick’s dad had kidnapped Lily simultaneously to Todd attacking Wick because Todd getting to Lily didn’t make any sense to me)
but whatever it was a definitive conclusion.

I like the kind of story where I don’t know who to trust (narrator included) and this story ticked that particular box of mine. Book will stay on shelf

The mystery was too easily solved and the characters could be more realistic, but I'm giving it three stars because it takes place in Peachtree City. Not just any Peachtree City, but one full of meth houses, cyber criminals, and crooked cops. Makes our little town sound so much more dramatic than the reality.

Wick Tate is an undercover hacker. After her mother’s suicide and her fathers arrest, her and her younger sister Lily become foster children. Her life is supposed to be perfect, but when a fellow student and former best friend commits suicide, it becomes a whole lot more complicated.

Tessa seemed fine, but when her diary appears on Wick’s doorstep with the note, ‘Find me’ she realized that Tessa had a whole lot more going on than it seemed.

With the help of a fellow hacker (and very attractive) Griff, Wick investigates what happened.

A plot filled with twists and turns and an ending to die for, this book is an amazing read!!

Trigger warning: suicide, abuse, child-abuse/teen-abuse, a little bullying.
Had this on my TBR for nearly a year now, but not yet bought, which I did today.
Just read a recommendation and liked the blurb.
Although I had been burned in the past by a few of these recommendations and will stay away if the bad-word-tag (Gone Girl-alike, Psychological Thriller, meaning to me DNF / total-bore) pops up, still think, I will like this and am just in the mood for it. Price was ok.

Could have more hacking, but ok, for what it delivered. MC was ok, but not totally convincing, feel at a loss to put my finger on why.

Recommended, but a little too much romance, no sex. For a debut 1 star extra, not sure if and when I will read more of this series. Reasonably fast read, had to wait for a delivery which came late and nearly read 80% during the hours of waiting.
