I love really watching Joss grow into the man he will be. I'm very curious to learn how all his close relationships with vampires will shape events in the future.

Well this one was better than the last. (Not that that's saying much.) But it wasn't nearly as depressing or boring. I read it in a day. (Though I was sick so I didn't have much else to do.)

There were numerous small inconsistencies throughout. The one that stands out is, Joss kicks vampires in the balls several times, then he's facing off against a vampire and wonders if such a move would work. So, while they didn't effect the story, they were still annoying.

The second definitely feels like a side story. There's plenty of action, but all of the important stuff happened off page. (This takes place the summer after Joss met Vlad. So while you didn't need to read the Vlad books before the first slayer, you need to read book two of Vlad before this. It's recounted, but I'd still feel like I missed something.)

joss's moral conundrums are too repetitive for my tastes.

This book was so good. Although, I wish they would give him a girlfriend. Although, I feel he's gay because of Vlad.

First read rating: 4 stars.

Original review: 8/19/12

This book had an appearance by Otis and some flashbacks to Joss's little fallout with Vlad, which I kinda loved. The Slayers are back, though Kat isn't. She'll probably show up in the next book, though.

Very enjoyable book. If you liked the previous book and the Vlad books, you'll probably like this.

2014 update: Tried reading it again. Didn't like it nearly as much (see my review of the third book for more details).
Second read rating: 2 stars.

Hey awesome person reading this check out my blog please!!!!!!!! http://booknerdrambling.blogspot.com/

This book had an appearance by Otis and some flashbacks to Joss's little fallout with Vlad, which I kinda loved. Joss is still deal with what happened in the ending of the last book and confused about vampires he has come in contact with three vampires that he genuinely liked, he is starting to question his actions even though he hates what they did to his sister Cecile and keeps havig nightmares.
Jose messed up bad and the slayer society knows he took a private job-his misson to kill Vlad- now he has to prove that he can be a hardcore slayer just like the rest of his pals and scary Uncle Abraham who still pushes his young nephew to his limits because of whatever issues he has.Not to mention he's getting creepy texts from Kat, who wants revenge because of what went down in the last book.

Second Chance is a lot more fast paced then the first book and where introduced to a few new characters and get to see the old favorites. Even after reading the second book I'm still not sure how I feel about Joss I like him a lot more now then when I read the Vlad Chronicles but certain things bother me about him.To me he's a character you want to like but can't maybe he'll when me over in the next book.Yeah I get he was crushed after his sister died and all that but he seems really obsessed. That sort of makes me dislike him i'm rooting for him to change the slayer socity or to do something epic like that.

The cover was great in typical Heather Brewer fasion it's angst filledand eye cathing. So i really wanted to like this book but i'm not sure I though the first book was okay but this one was sort of lacking.Maybe it's just me so I would still say to give it a try.Hopefully the next book can pull me in but maybe not.2/5
