The Tarleton twins are insufferable and humorless and Catherine Moreland would NEVER.

Also I just felt bad for Valentine the whole time. He was victim blamed for getting shot, and for breaking a chair he was tied up in… that poor dude deserved so much better.

This wasn't my favorite queer romance but it had its merits! It's historical and everyone is queer, there's a gender-fluid character, and (of course) an HEA. On the downside, the drama felt overdone and after a while I just wanted everyone to have an actual conversation. There's some internalized homophobia (sort of?) but
the main character grows a lot and his mom at the end is such a lovely good human
.

As a farce, this was ridiculously funny and camp and over the top. As a romance... it just wasn't quite there for me. Valentine was an idiot one too many times and the twins verged on too mean one too many times as well (especially Arabella). If both of those aspects were pared back just a touch then I think I'd have loved this.

Such a fun read! The Tarleton twins were so delightfully over the top dramatic and Valentine was so delightfully oblivious to anything really. These aren’t SUPER fleshed out characters but I did feel emotionally attached to them while I was reading. Definitely made me laugh so much and at least put a smile on my face. From the cover, I thought this would be more of YA novel but this is definitely more of a new adult romance with sex scenes written out in detail, which is fine, just not something I expected at all going into it. Also, while is written in a historical setting, it’s much more of a modern romance/love story so I don’t if I would technically fully consider it as historical, maybe more like an alternative version of what history could have been. As a queer person myself, I loved how all of the characters (except for like two) were all delightfully queer! I’m not quite sure why this has a lower rating because I really did have fun reading it.

This was a fun read! I admit that I despised Arabella 😅 but I really liked all of the other characters, especially Valentine and Peggy! It was exactly what the back of the book promised - a good romp and pomp 😂 with some adventures of course!
