I have been looking to read this book for almost a year now (so much so that it was on my 2023 TBR list, which can be found //here//). And for the first ⅔, Wendy Webb took my on an adventure that my soul loved. Mysterious woods, water spirits, and mischievous dealings all enchanted my read. And then Wendy Webb forgot that she had to stick the landing and kind of wobbled to the finish. I wish the ending had more meat on the bones; it was almost like I wrote it, which in this case isn’t a good thing. I know that I struggle with conflict and tension, and it seems this author does as well. I have a few other books of hers already on my Kindle that I’ll give a second try (and I’m curious if the sanitorium talked about in this book has it’s own book) but I’ll go in with lower expectations.

Solid read, I love the magical elements and Great Lakes setting that Wendy Webb creates. The romantic relationship kind of seemed like an afterthought, and certain aspects of the characters; development seemed very unsettled by the end (like the aunt who has a complete personality shift/ mental break and then just goes back to life as normal). I think this book could have been longer and had a more satisfying ending for some of the characters.

Great book. Very cool mystery book intermixed with faye/mythological/celtic spiritual elements. Really cool combination and not a style I have really seen before. Great read! You totally fall in love with the characters.
