What a wholesome classic!

From the first few pages I felt so much love for Mole, Ratty, Badger, Toad and the countryside they live in.

The prose in this book is fantastic and excels in its descriptive writing about the country.

Highly recommend reading this classic if you are into talking animals and lush greenery.

There is a reason this tale of 4 woodland creatures is an enduring classic. Reading it to my 7 year old, despite the older language and turn of the century slang, she found the Rat, Road, Mole and Badger funny and endearing. Each has it's own charms and insecurities.

If possible read the beautifully illustrated version by Inga Moore.

Hated Lady Toad with a passion. I appreciate what was trying to be achieved with the gender swap and it was certainly an easier listen than listening to men gallivanting around, but I still didn’t enjoy most of it and it felt like pulling teeth. I do commend the audio quality, cast performances, and sound effects though.
