Not as good as it should be. Unfortunately. Too coy for me, the Arrest, thowing earth into a tailspin, is never revealed. He should read some Peter Carey.

I'm just not sure how to think about this. It's seems set up to be a metaphor for the lies we tell ourselves about just about everything, and Todbaum seems to be the perfect unreliable narrator with regards to how we process information about the world that is outside of our immediate experience, but Todbuam isn't our narrator, Journeyman is, and Journeyman is just a dullard. Things happen to and around him, but he never makes a decision, or contemplates his actions, he just moves on and the next thing occurs.
There are many good ideas in this book that would make a compelling story, but none of them get fleshed out any more than the cast of completely forgettable characters.

A fun post apocalyptic novel full of humour and beautifully written. Slow paced but it worlds well. Reminded me a little of some of Robert Heinleins work, Door into Summer and stuff like that.

Maybe I just missed it, but I have no idea what the point of this book was. Felt like it was constantly trying to say something profound and failing to say anything at all; constantly trying to say something funny without eliciting so much as a giggle. Big plot twists happened without any explanation, small developments were drawn out painfully over hundreds of pages. Not for me.

At times I came close to liking this book, but it was just too disjointed and bizarre. Still love Lethem, but this was a swing and a miss…

This book is summarized as sci-fi about all the tech suddenly stopping without explanation. What it actually is is literary fiction about two guys going crazy, and the end of technology is just a catalyst for the men. It's so boring and disappointing.
