Several chapters are helpful for learning terminology and becoming comfortable with existential therapy. I think less of this remains relevant, however, with the current waves of therapy. This was very much written when psychoanalytic therapy was the center of practice, and seems largely written to convince people of existential therapy as an alternative. It is written much more textbook-style than Yalom's later work, and has much free case studies.

For clinicians, but great insight into freedom, willing, responsibility, and meaninglessness play a role in human life.

The book sorts out many common human emotions, feelings, and elements of despair play into our lives.

A timeless text for anyone interested in life, death and meaning. Aside from some aged turns of phrase, it's hard to believe this was written over forty years ago - some subjects just persist.

Perhaps, an illuminating prescription and bitter remedy for what ails the mind and soul, Existential Psychotherapy delves deep into the core of existential concerns by analysing the immutable facts of life whilst providing valuable insights and therapeutic relief. Although Yalom, at times, can be redundant in terms of presenting cases, the clinical potency of the book remains highly relevant to date; and can further catalyse fundamental change in the individual should one heed its prudent counsel.
