The Mercy Thompson series has become one of the few series that I look forward to reading every single year. For me, Mercy has become one of my favorite literary characters. It felt good to become immersed in her world again. The one thing that I like about Patricia Briggs’ Soul Taken is that it basically picked up where the last book left off. I love when books do that the only thing that I did not like about the story is that at one point it started to drag a bit. This happens sometimes when I read these books. However, I truly enjoyed the ending. I am looking forward to reading the next book.
Graphic: Violence
Minor: Sexual content

Spiciness: 2 Chilis (Steam - No Clothes, Fade-to-Black)
Tropes:All Myths Are True, Magic Realism, Magical Society, The Unmasqued World, The World IS Not Ready, Post-Modern Magik, Benevolent Monsters, Blue-Collar Warlock, Cute Monster Girl, The Fair Folk, Wainscot Society, Fur Against Fang, Gods Need Prayers Badly, Human Disguise, Modernized God, Occult Detective, Our Monsters Are Different, Unfazed Everyman, Working-Class Werewolves, I See Dead People, Paranormal Mundane Item, Cursed Item, Fantastic Racism
The Mercyverse is one of the best urban fantasy settings I've ever read. From worldbuilding to character development, everything blends together nicely and always leaves me wanting more.
In Soul Taken, Mercy must solve a mystery involving missing persons, when suddenly murders relating to an urban legend begin to appear. With bad publicity aimed at the Pack, it is even more important to get things resolved quickly. Mercy has to dig deep inside herself and learn quickly on her feet before things get really nasty.
Cons: It feels like there's no time for Mercy (or the reader) to breathe. With plot points piling onto the character's shoulders, the tension in my own got worse. (In hindsight, this was probably done intentionally, but still.)
