i absolutely loved jonah and his family in this book, and i think it was really wholesome to see their development throughout the book as well as jonah and vivi’s romance. i think that this book had necessary representation of mental illness, however - while i think it  is important to show the ugly sides of this - some of vivi’s treatment towards jonah really annoyed me. also, a lot of vivi’s dialogue felt quite unrealistic for a teenager. despite this, i thought this was a really lovely book, and the last few chapters were so lovely and poetic to read

Didn't like the main character's internal monologue.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if the story was more focused on Jonah. A middle child, older brother of three, struggling with the loss of a parent and the absence of another. The realness of a whole family grieving and dealing with depression, the weight of the literal world on shoulders. Yes, sign me up. I'm there.

But since the book is multiple pov between Jonah and Vivi, I just couldn't get into it as much. Well, I just could not stand Vivi. Let's be honest. She's just got that whole, "Look at me, I'm quirky" vibe. And not in a good way. Vivi goes through her own insecurities but that's not what annoyed me with her. There's a moment where Jonah is talking to another girl (not anything serious, just work and childhood stuff) and Vivi completely freaks out, accusing Jonah of having a deeper relationship with the girl. Not to mention that she's basically using Jonah as a summer romance anyway.

The descriptions of anxiety, depression, and grief are so accurate and well written. Everyone goes through their own thing and experiences everything differently and this book was a nice touch.

Each character was so well thought out and brimming with life. The plot was very colorful and interesting with a few secrets to discover which keeps the reader turning pages. Mental illness was also a large part of the story and the author did a beautiful job of incorporating it and bringing awareness.
