This is a gorgeous piece of literature. The way it is written flows easily and beautiful the way a unicorn can run like a wave. The story is a straightforward fairytale with a bittersweet ending.

I think this would have had a bigger impact on me if I had read it when I was young. Loved Beagle's often strange phrases.

This was my favorite movie growing up, and finally reading it was a blast to my past. Beautiful and haunting, this story sparked my passion for darkness and light from a young age. The book, significantly better than the movie, for the record.

this book is sad! I couldn't remember if I've already read it or not and I think I have, but either way I was just not prepared for it to be so sad. the writing is kind of loopy and giddy, lots of words being used as they aren't usually, but that does create the kind of fantastical imagery that makes sense in a work of fantasy about unicorns. a lot of the descriptions of magic are actually magical. the book has a bit of a dry sense of humor, too, which I think I enjoyed more as an adult than I would have reading this as a child.

I've never been a unicorn gal and a horse stepped on my foot once (I'm fine), but this was lovely.

It took a while for me to get into this book, but when I did I liked it just fine, hence the upgrade from 2 star to 3.

I think this might be a perfect story for a reread some day, as I feel I might enjoy it more now that I know what it is all about. The audience this was aimed at is much younger than me, so I might not have been able to appreciate it fully.

I do recommend reading this book if it is on your TBR list, if only to tick off another classic.
