I love Modiano’s style. I have read most of his novels, and I still don’t quite understand what key event they all seem to be circling around. Patrick Modiano has captured my respect, curiosity, and my love of well written novels. Please read all of his works. You won’t be disappointed.

This book is beautiful from cover to cover. It really hits home on, what I would say, the “memory” games we played as kids. Whether those games consisted of cards, or of pictures on a screen, you will remember them. Patrick Modiano — translated by Mark Polizzotti — paints an immaculate picture for such memory games.

Honestly it was fine but it felt like there rly wasn’t much to it and just a lot of names and changing of the plot and I was left slightly confused.

Encre sympathique est un livre typique de Modiano encore une fois. Mais s'il publie ses romans c'est pour offrir quelque chose au lecteur ? Et non pas pour son propre désir d'ecrire, n'est-ce pas ? Ce livre n'est qu'un amas d'autres romans. Il y a un changement de narration injustifié. Est-ce pour rajouter une sorte de mysticisme autour des personnages ou bien pour détemporaliser cet extrait ? On ne sait pas. C'est peut-être la force du livre ? Mais on s'y perd. L'avantage néanmoins avec ce roman serait que la fin n'est pas avorté, ce qui donne l'impression d'avoir affaire avec une histoire bien présente, avec un début et une fin, en rupture avec les autres histoires de Modiano qui débutent mais ne finissent jamais. Que penser de cela ? Au final, peut-être moindre frustration pour le lecteur. Mais moi je ne lis pas Modiano pour l'action dramatique. Ça n'apporte rien. Et l'auteur modifie sa structure narrative pour ça. Ce roman n'a rien de plus, rien de moins. Mais il fait plaisir, parce que c'est Modiano.

Това е книга за времето, което минава през нас и след което остават фрагменти от спомени, недостатъчни, за да можем да подредим цялостната картина на един живот. Това обаче е книга и за случайността, която се превръща в конеца, свързащ дните ни в броеница, където може да се проследи скрития смисъл на всяко действие и събитие. Предопределението протяга ръка през хаоса на всички срещи, за да могат двама души да се открият сред остатъците от миналото, чието значение не се простира отвъд това рандеву.
