Who knows why I have only decided today to be the day I finally read The Little Mermaid…. Great little masterpiece

Of course, everybody knows about this story.
It was a bit different from the modern adaptations, however. It was, of course, much more brutal and there was more emphasis on gaining a soul. The writing was honestly more beautiful than I expected, though the ending was a little dragged out. While it is definitely a bit deranged (she gave up her life for a guy she met once and practically assaulted him), I still think it's a classic worth reading.

Very different from the Disney movie. While a short story, the suffering of the little mermaid sticks with you long after you’ve read it.
