Pretty epic start to a very, very solid graphic novel series.

A promising start- it has the things I like and look for in post-apocalyptic fiction. We have the communities that spread around everywhere, chaos where it needs to be, people vying for control, most places not doing ok, people who have found something to hold on to, etc. Yorick is kind of a shit person, but I guess not out of line of what a 22 y.o. guy would be acting like in this time and place. There's a lot of moving parts, which will keep the story interesting, so we'll see where vol. 2 takes up. So far, so good.

I don't really enjoy the main character, but the 'what if' scenario is rather great, with interesting side plots.

Very solid start. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the series progresses. The art is amazing, with strong attention to detail.

Interesting concept, just wish the protagonist wasn't a fool. There was also some questionable character motivations that felt like they were only there to propel the story.

Bullet Review:

Pros: good look at how male-dominated our leadership and other key jobs are, that effing ending

Cons: straw feminism everywhere, the fact that one male still dominates a woman's story

I love Vaughan, but I doubt I continue. The love-hate relationship!! ACK!!

I've been meaning to read this for years. I even rented it from the library no less than six times before finally buying it for myself as a Christmas gift this year, which finally got me to buckle down and read it.

And it was fantastic! It was utterly thrilling, the art was crisp and all the characters distinct, attractive, and interesting to look at, and the writing was sharp, the comedy hitting often and the drama hitting hard.

This was a delightful start to a thrilling and interesting premise and I'll be very excited to begin the next book!
