It picks up right where the first lets off, but i found Nessa and Anto's love/obsession for each other annoying to hear about every other line. the plot moves so fast none of the characters, that could be cool, time to develop. the murderer who is allowed to study survivors, the girl (forgot her name) who lasted till her mid 20s till she was called, the father who help <spoiler) nessa in the gray land, and the god at the end!!! all would have been great characters, if they got to develop more! its a weakness of the book that really gets old. youve built me this incredible world, let me see more of it than anto and nessa, who only think of each other in a way thats so tiring like shut up.

this book needed to marinate more to let the brutality and horror of the story develop and strengthen, instead its hyper fast and instead of the moments sitting with youre youre just dragged along and nothing really lands. still a good, somewhat entertaining read. the ending is cute!

The second book in the duology is slightly better than the first & many of the characters return from the first story. Nessa is sent to prison for being a traitor, the evidence being that the Sidhe gave her the power of fire control & made her fireproof. Everyone seems to believe the accusation & Nessa is banished back to the fairy realm, whilst Anto is caught up in the fighting when the Sidhe invade Ireland.

Again, this was a very dark book with lots of cruel death & grotesque imagery. I read it because I wanted to know how the story ended, if Nessa managed to survive & what happened with her & Anto. Anto, now there's a big disappointment who betrays Nessa in the worst way. I was going to make this a 4 star read until that scene happened. Way to completely trash his character. Overall, I'm wanted to read this duology but I'm in no rush to ever re-read it.
