🎧I really enjoyed this audiobook and this was my first book by this author. It read sort of like a drama-mystery book with each character having their secrets and their character flaws. The main white female character was portrayed as your typical white moderate, rich woman who thinks she’s not racist or prejudiced but whose actions show otherwise. I felt like the moral gray areas this book explored were fascinating and made the book fairly fast paced. Furthermore, the plot takes place in the late 90’s which was an interesting time to choose.

My book club chose this book and unfortunately I was unable to attend. But I can imagine it would make an excellent book club discussion. I’ve heard that the TV series (starring Reese Witherspoon) is even better than the book so I will definitely add the TV series to my list. I will also be reading more from this author because I am intrigued by her writing.

This book really surprised me. It’s quite mysterious and not at all what I expected! It begins with the end of the book and then goes through the storyline. Lots of twists and turns! At first it was a little complicated to keep up with all the characters and their stories, but I finally understood the differences after several chapters.

I really enjoyed this one. Captured my attention right from the start, and I appreciated the discussions of class, race, and motherhood. Will definitely pick up more Celeste Ng in future.

  • this book is so intriguing and thought provoking! I spent any free time I had reading because I really couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. I devoured Little Fires Everywhere.
  • There are so many characters and inter woven storylines. It wasn’t hard to keep track and all of them were interesting.
  • I enjoyed how the author broached topics like motherhood, relationships, adoption, surrogacy, abortion, racism, and a seemingly utopian society. All of this while still keeping the characters and their stories engaging.
  • The metaphorical writing! Using elements of nature or just about anything to describe the emotions of the characters was wonderful to read.
  • It’s a little slow in the beginning but once you get to the know the characters and the plot picks up, it’s completely worth the wait. I’m so happy I grabbed this book from a Little Free Library!
