Transgender History compiles the history of transgender identities as well as the importance of including transgender people in modern-day activism. This was my first experience with feminist/queer literature, and I really have not looked back since. This book introduced me to a wonderful movement and complex history that means a lot to me even today. Since the latest addition was released in 2017, it could be somewhat outdated, but I still think it is a good introduction if you want to learn more about trans history.

This book read more like a high school textbook so I struggled to get through parts of it, but the resources (websites, laws, etc) mentioned were vital for me to know about. Also, there were many incidents and law cases that were shared in this book that I didn’t know about.

This was good. I learned a lot and had things refreshed for me, but because it was short it was just information after information and I found it hard to take in at times. If this was longer and things were expanded on I think it would have been more beneficial for me.

Good introduction to trans history in the US, covering major events up to ~2017. If you are generally familiar with queer history/studies maybe skip/skim the definitions chapter as some of the labels are outdated/wrongly defined.

Clear, concise, and informative. An incredible primer on trans history in the usa.

Only nitpick is that I wish there were more specific footnote/endnotes that were more comprehensive though Stryker does include further readings and general citations for each chapter.
