What an intense, challenging, lyrical, worthwhile novel. This was my second read (admittedly with a decade plus in between) and I still think I only understood about 65%. The best way I can describe it is as a long prose poem about wellness, mental health, politics, protest, race, environmental justice, love, spirituality, memory, grief, and probably 18 other things I don’t have the words for. Both a painful read and a healing one, that I‘ll probably return to again, in another decade or so.
